Design and Placemaking Planning Practice Guidance: consultation document
The government is set to issue new planning guidance that will discourage “cookie-cutter neighbourhoods” in a bid to win over “Nimbys” with contemporary homes.
We’re proud to share that Pollard Thomas Edwards has four outstanding projects featured in the new guidance - underscoring our ongoing commitment to high-quality housing and placemaking.
The four featured projects blend innovation in co-design, placemaking and customisation with good old-fashioned architectural verve. They include:
Beechwood Village, our customisable neighbourhood of homes in Basildon that celebrates resident choice and design excellence.
New Ground Cohousing, our pioneering co-housing scheme in High Barnet emphasising collaboration, sustainability and community living.
The Avenue, a sensitive, award-winning residential development in Saffron Walden that skillfully integrates new homes into an historic setting.
Knights Park - part of the transformative North West Cambridge development, delivering high-quality new homes as part of a vibrant university-linked community.
These projects reflect the breadth of our work and our commitment to shaping places that are sustainable, inclusive and beautifully designed.
The Times – which features a photograph of Beechwood Village to illustrate its story on the government plans, describes the 2024 RIBA national award winner as ‘a mix of affordable and private homes with asymmetrical roofs inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement were factory-built a mile from the site, with homes customisable by residents. They sit in a network of pathways to nearby parks.’ Commenting, the Ministry added: ‘Quieter streets mean neighbours can connect, children can play safely and older residents can stay active,’ the ministry said.
